Funny Kid Quotes

I haven't been as good at recording the funny things my kids have said as I would like to be, but here are some funny quotes since the last kid quotes post! Some of these Sam recorded, and others I recorded:

While sitting in Sacrament meeting one Sunday Jonah turned around, looked at the elderly man sitting behind us, and said, "That President Monson, Mommy!"

Whenever Jonah gets an idea he says, "My brain got an idea!"

Jonah, not wanting to walk upstairs after Heidi and I exercised, said, "it's too hard for me to walk."

Ellie was looking out the window at a dog and said, "I don't like that dog because one time it barfed at me."

Ellie calls her heel her "high heel."

Ellie told me a gentleman put her book away at kindergarten. I asked her who and she said it was a kid named Gabe. She then said, "I said it quietly..." I asked her what she said, and she said in a very adoringly hushed voice, "Wow. What a gentleman."

Ellie asked me, pointing to her ribs, if those were her "wrinkly bones."

Nathan calls an umbrella a "kumbrella."

Nathan in his prayer tonight said, "Please bless that if any big rocks are going to hit the earth that you will move our planet to a different out of the way. And that everyone else will like our planet too."

While in the car Nathan was talking about how when he grows up he's going to work at "the same place as Sam." Then he said, "and I will have more kids than this (pointing to the kids in our family). I will pray for 66 kids."

I love these funny glimpses into my kids' cute minds!

Ellie's First Tooth

Ellie lost her first tooth last week! It had been extremely loose for a few weeks, and every day she would have me wiggle it, but she wasn't in a hurry to get it out. On Friday morning she had me wiggle it again, and I heard it crack. At that point I told her it was so loose it might fall out when she ate and she would accidentally swallow it, so she had me pull it. She kept saying, "It didn't even hurt! It just stung a little!"

She is so proud of the little gap in her mouth, and she keeps showing it to everyone who will listen.

It's funny how as a mom every little milestone makes me happy, but at the same time makes me feel nostalgic and a little sad that my kids are growing up. This is one of those milestones. I can't believe that my very first kid is losing one of the first teeth she ever got as my teeny baby girl. There is no way she will be 6 in a few short weeks!

I love this girl and I am so proud of the big girl she is becoming. I am so grateful to be able to watch her grow up.

Everyday Moments

These everyday moments are what make me love being a mom so much!

We came home one evening and I told the kids to run in and get ready for baths. Here is their interpretation. They thought they were so funny!

Ellie loves to put outfits together. This is one of her original creations. (How did she get so tall?! When we bought those shorts last summer they were down to her knees!)

Ellie came home from school and konked out on the couch with her apple. She always comes home so hungry!

"Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes" gone wrong during Family Home Evening... She hit her nose on her knee. Apparently it can be a very violent song!

The boys love to listen when Ellie reads her books for school.

And last but not least, dance parties to the music from "Sing!"

Jonah Turns Three!

Our Jonah turned three a couple of weeks ago! I can't believe he is that old, but at the same time it feels like he has been part of our family for much longer than that.

The day before his birthday we went to the store to pick out a cake. I'm not a fancy cake baker or decorator, but at this point in life the kids don't seem to mind. It took him about 15 minutes of looking at each of the boxes to decide. Tough decision!

The winner!

On the morning of his birthday he chose eggs for breakfast. Easy to please!

When I asked him later on in the day what he wanted for dinner he said, "Eggs!" I reminded him that we had eggs for breakfast, and he still said he wanted eggs... But I asked him if he would want quesadillas instead and he was on board with that. He sure gave us an easy day of cooking!

We opened presents and did cake after dinner. I love these pictures of the kids because they portray their excitement about the whole thing.

I love how magical kids' birthdays are when they are little! Though Tommy doensn't look all that pleased in this picture... Too funny!

After dinner we went to our ward dance. Jonah was convinced that this was his "birthday party" since it was on his birthday.

The pictures are all super dark, but the kids all had a great time! Ellie wanted to wear this dress since it twirls, and she pretty much spent the whole time twirling around.

Nathan wanted me to take a picture of him with the award he was given. It's a pretty bad picture lighting wise, and his face is funny because he was surprised by the flash, but I wanted to document it because he was SO excited about this award! He ran around showing it to all of his friends.

Nathan, Ellie and Jonah kept taking turns asking me to dance with them, which was really fun!

The older kids had a great time participating in the dance off, doing the limbo, and just generally running around with their friends, but I was completely surprised by Tommy! After he initially warmed up to the atmosphere he asked us to put him down and he kept dancing and dancing and dancing! He literally didn't stop dancing the entire time we were there. It was so cute to watch him spin around and try to jump.

As we got in the car to leave I asked Jonah how his birthday was, and he said, "I love my birthday!" We are so glad that he is part of our family and that we got to celebrate him on his special day!

Baby Brubaker #5

On Tuesday I went in for my 20-week ultrasound, and we were so excited and surprised to find out that Baby is a girl!

She seems to be developing normally, and she weighed an estimated 10 oz - which put her in the 16th percentile. The ultrasound tech didn't seem worried, especially when I told her that a few of my babies have measured in similar percentiles at 20 weeks.

Since Sam comes from a family of all boys and Ellie is the only granddaughter out of 12 grandchildren on that side, we were very surprised when the tech said we were having another girl!

After the tech finished making sure the baby was healthy I asked her to go back and double check to make sure Baby was still a girl... (silly I know) and yep, definitely a girl!

When I picked my kids up after the appointment they couldn't stop asking whether the baby was a boy or a girl - especially Ellie - but Sam and I wanted to tell them in a way that would make it fun for them, so they had to wait until after Sam got off of work and I got finished with my piano class to find out!

Our kids think balloons are the greatest things on earth, so we decided that colored balloons would be a fun way to tell them the news! We told them that pink would mean girl and blue would mean boy.

Ellie was so excited to see a pink balloon in her bag! She had been hoping this baby would be a sister for quite awhile, and her wish finally came true.

When Nathan saw his balloon he excitedly exclaimed, "It's a baby girl in Mom's belly!"

Jonah said, "My blue balloon is pink!" (I think someone was pretty set on a little brother!)

Unfortunately Tommy's balloon popped as I was getting it out of the car... Oh well! He was happy with the string, though he wondered where his balloon was when the other kids opened theirs!

The pictures aren't pinterest-worthy. The kids aren't dressed in coordinating outfits - heck Ellie is wearing mismatched socks! But this imperfectly wonderful family is all mine, and I love this preserved moment in time!

We are so grateful that Baby is healthy, and we are beyond thrilled to welcome another little girl into our family in August! Bring on the pink!
